ITWomen Joins the Girls Coalition of Miami-Dade

Miami, FL April 9, 2010 —Girls Coalition of Miami-Dade welcomes newest member ITWomen as part of a collaborative partnership to help girls realize their full potential.

The Girls Coalition aims at becoming the premier vehicle in Miami-Dade for girl-serving organizations to network and collaborate, providing professional development opportunities, increased awareness of services available for girls, and a united voice on issues that affect girls.

“Members of the Coalition, representing a cross-section of girl-serving community organizations, are continually challenged by the shrinking resources and educational programs,” says Fran Katz,

Associate Director, Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade and Steering Member of the Girls Coalition of Miami-Dade.  “The Girls Coalition was formed to leverage the collective power and knowledge of our members to improve the future opportunities of the girls they serve.”

“We are thrilled to join the Girls Coalition of Miami-Dade,” said Victoria Usherenko, president of ITWomen.

“ITWomen has been at the forefront of addressing issues of gender equity efforts in South Florida since 2002 through our Role Models Initiative, our community outreach program in place at after-school computer clubhouses, middle schools, high schools and colleges throughout the tri-county area. Our role with Girls Coalition will allow us to expand these programs and make further inroads toward closing the gender gap in the field of technology.”

Adds Usherenko, “We see our involvement as the beginning of a larger effort to expand our reach and engage other women and youth groups in raising the number of young women entering and succeeding in IT.
