World Fuel Services Field Trip Inspires Girls to Careers in Tech
World Fuel Services introduced the rewards and challenges of a career in tech to 32 high school girls from Hialeah Gardens H.S. in a field trip at its Miami headquarters. The field trip was part of ITWomen Role Model Speakers program and the mission to narrow the gender gap in engineering and information technology.
World Fuel Services COO Jeff Smith, CISO Tim Ramsay, and VP Transformation Madeleine Garcia and many staff members took time out of their workday to inspire the girls to consider the amazing job growth and higher salaries in technology careers.
Like an ‘MBA in a Day’ the World Fuel hosts shared candid insights on day-to-day career experiences, information security facts, and the importance of critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration.
Kicking off with an interactive Kahoot session to really engage the students ranging from 9th – 12th Grades, the World Fuel team shared how the company leverages Agile and collaboration tools to enable their globally distributed teams to realize the power of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to automate processes.
Staff members also shared a day in the life of a product owner, a business analyst, QA analyst, software applications developer, UX/UIDesigner and a Scrum Master.
The full day included workshops, panel discussion and luncheon.
